One of my goals as the Confluence fellow has been to highlight the work of BIPOC artists in and around Edmonton. To do this I have decided to do a vlog called: Meet a BIPOC Creator.
I intend to highlight and focus the breadth of BIPOC talent here in Treaty 6 (Edmonton) and across Turtle Island (Canada).
I thought it was fitting that my first guest be the firebrand and my 2020-2021 Confluence Fellow predecessor, Tia Ashley-Kushniruk.
Tia Ashley Kushniruk Bio:
Tia Ashley Kushniruk (亚 女弟) is a queer woman of Chinese-Eastern European settler heritage from the Treaty 6 Territory of Amiskwaciwâskahikan/Edmonton. She is a performer, illustrator, curator, animator, and a writer. Since 2014, her research has been supported by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the Canada Council for the Arts. She is scared of heights and can do a really good Elmo impression.
