Meet A BIPOC Creator – Tia Kushniruk

January 25, 2022
Happy 2022 everyone. I hope this year finds you safe and surrounded in love.

One of my goals as the Confluence fellow has been to highlight the work of BIPOC artists in and around Edmonton. To do this I have decided to do a vlog called: Meet a BIPOC Creator.

I intend to highlight and focus the breadth of BIPOC talent here in Treaty 6 (Edmonton) and across Turtle Island (Canada).

I thought it was fitting that my first guest be the firebrand and my 2020-2021 Confluence Fellow predecessor, Tia Ashley-Kushniruk.

Tia Ashley Kushniruk Bio:
Tia Ashley Kushniruk (亚 女弟) is a queer woman of Chinese-Eastern European settler heritage from the Treaty 6 Territory of Amiskwaciwâskahikan/Edmonton. She is a performer, illustrator, curator, animator, and a writer. Since 2014, her research has been supported by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the Canada Council for the Arts. She is scared of heights and can do a really good Elmo impression.

You can find out more about Tia on her:  Website, YouTube, or on Facebook

HAPPY NEW YEAR
